We created the Publicity Starter Kit to help authors quickly create the basic tools needed for a successful – and professional – book publicity campaign. Even if you plan on hiring a Book Publicist or a PR firm, having these basics and clarifying your messaging will save you time and money. And if you’re not hiring a publicist, you’ll be ready with everything you need for your book launch or upcoming events. Here’s what it includes: 
  1. MAKING NEWS” STRATEGY SESSION, PLATFORM ASSESSMENT   After completing an online questionnaire, we’ll dig deeper into the goals and strategy of your book and your business as an author or publisher in a strategy session via phone. We’ll cover the following: 
  • Review existing Author Platform (Previous media outreach/coverage, Website, Brand, Social Media, email lists)
  • Pinpoint Goals for your publicity (generate sales, generate speaking engagements, drive traffic to your website.)
  • Brainstorm market segments, positioning and pitch angles for your book
  • Make recommendations on Author Platform enhancement necessary for effectiveness. (Branding and messaging,Website, overall online visibility, social media platforms and engagement, graphics,)
  • Make recommendations for next steps to maximize publicity opportunities
  • Brainstorm target media outlets for your publicity based on your goals

2. INITIAL PRESS RELEASE AND PRESS KIT SAMPLES

We’ll draft your first press release focused on the most effective angles based on the goals identified in your Strategy Session. This release will serve as a template for future releases and include the key messaging and boiler plate copy that should be included in all releases. For authors positioning themselves as thought-leaders and experts in their niche, the “release” may take the form of an Expert Profile with interview topics/headlines and graphics. 

We’ll also make recommendations on key press kit materials that should be created to provide media with a comprehensive, professional press kit. We’ll recommend some or all of the following depending on your individual PR Strategies: Bio, Author Q&A, Reviews, Sales Sheet, Interview One-Sheet, professional graphics, photos, feature releases, authored articles (by you). You’ll receive samples of each so that you can create them for your project.

3. CREATE YOUR TARGETED MEDIA LIST, "HOW TO CONTACT THE MEDIA" & "MEDIA INTERVIEW" TIP SHEETS

We’ll use the industry’s coveted Media Database to research and identify the top 20targeted journalists, bloggers, podcasters and media outlets best suited to the messaging for your immediate publicity needs. You’ll receive a complete list with contact information, topics they cover, and how they want to be contacted. You’ll also receive a detailed “How to Contact the Media” tip sheet and “Media Interview Tips”  so you’ll be ready for those first few interviews!
